I have been trying to loosen up my style and get a little more painterly over the past few years. Inspired by Berkley, Manchess, Frazetta, Berry and our own amazing Foster. Really just experimenting with differnet approaches and looks. Needless to say I have never been able to pull it off.

This image started with a fairly detailed value study and progressed into a detailed painting... then I took it into painter and just wrecked it with brushwork. Why is destruction so much fun! ; ) A huge waste of time maybe but having the detailed painting really helped me concentrate on the strokes and not worry about color or composition.

A Heavy Metal Magazine style fantasy pinup. The piece started out just for fun and practice, but I really liked the attitude of the pose. From there, I spent a lot of time on the henna tattoo and the gear; weapons, bets, clothing, straps, buckles, etc. and finally tried a few different variations for the final lighting and background to come up with this. This piece was created almost a year ago but just hung around on my hard drive. It was inspired by a photo I saw when working on the UI design for Silent Hill 5. I love the perspective in the piece, it really to pulls the viewer in. I recently went back in to improve the old mistakes, fix the skin tones, lighting, color and details. The tattoo was hand drawn and colored then merged with the skin the same way that I did in transcendence. Graphics were done in illustrator. Over the past year I have created a bunch of abstract doodles in my sketchbook. I wanted to see what one of them would look like painted. Painted in photoshop. Most of the type and logos were designed in Illustrator, printed out, relettered by hand, sanded, ripped and distresses then scanned back into CS3. So much fun - I hope you like it... I do : )

This piece was entirely painted in CS3 using a photo of the girl for reference. Ovderlays and design elements were hand painted or scanned from my sketchbook and added to finalize the image. I cannot descriibe the concepts in the image here in detail, but I can say that it is about the masses beng controlled by the media.

Card one, or zero in this case, from a art/horror/tarot project that I have been working on since Jan 3rd this year. The set will be a Major Arcana only set - 22 cards symbolizing the hero's journey or man's rise from mortality to divinity.

I recently found the amazing Wheel of Time series from Robert Jordan. I had avoided it in the past becuase of the so-so cover art and the fact that most fantasy books are too flowery for me. To many happy pixies and unicorns on strange worlds with 3 headed creatures, etc. Anyway, this series can be very dark and gory and our hero Rand is very reluctant to be chosen as the man that will save the world.

I thought about the fact that being a seriel killer would only be one mental defect, where they clearly would have other signs of phsychosis. Book cover concept for Richard K Morgan's Altered carbon. Anyone effected by Gibson should read this series, its absolutely amazing. I was inspired to recreate one of the covers because they currently don't say much about the quality of the read.

This piece was a concept poster for Nuclear Dawn, a full conversion mod for Half-Life 2. ND is set in a post-nuclear environment where 2 primary factions are fighting for control of the remaining resources on Earth. This poster was an example of what the Consortium of Free States might use to recruit new soldiers.

The design was influenced by old Russian and German recruiting posters for WWII which are some of the best examples of solid graphic design and illustration in art history IMO.

What happens when a master copy goes slightly evil and semi-erotic? Leda 2006 is based "loosely" on Da Vinci's Leda painting. I wanted to keep the overall pose, body proportions and play up the relationship between Leda and the robotic snake-arms. And yes her breast is weird in the original.

Man made machine made man. This peice represents that strange fact that humans like to create technology that mirrors humans. Who knows, maybe we were made by machines in their likeness? Each side of the painting represents the choices that she could take, as her mind, or memory bank, is a blank.

Dissambled was about the disconnection between a cyborg and the most powerful human emotion, love. Metal, wires and plastic cannot be taught to feel but they might understand that they are lacking the exact programming to truly emulate human existance. Don't ask me where this crap comes from : )
